Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about tinnitus treatment, hearing aid optimization, and telehealth services.

About Tinnitus

Is there a cure for tinnitus?

While there's no pill or overnight cure that makes tinnitus disappear permanently, evidence-based treatment can significantly reduce its impact on your life.

Research on comprehensive tinnitus management shows that many patients experience significant improvement. A 2025 study of 212 patients found that 91.5% experienced clinically meaningful reduction in tinnitus symptoms after evidence-based treatment. Outcomes vary widely between individuals — some patients reduce their tinnitus to barely noticeable levels, while others learn to manage it so it no longer disrupts daily life.

The goal isn't necessarily to eliminate the sound completely — it's to help your brain learn to filter it out so it's no longer prominent in your awareness.

How is this different from what my regular audiologist told me?

Most audiologists provide excellent hearing care but lack specialized tinnitus training. I'm Board Certified in Tinnitus Management (CH-TM), with specialized training that focuses specifically on how the brain processes sound and manages tinnitus.

This allows me to identify solutions that clinicians without this specialized background might miss. I also experience tinnitus firsthand and have successfully managed it using the same evidence-based protocols I use with patients.

What if I've tried everything and nothing has worked?

Many patients come to me after unsuccessful attempts elsewhere. Often, previous treatments weren't comprehensive or evidence-based — or the provider didn't take the time to truly understand your complete auditory picture.

My approach examines everything: your hearing, your brain's sound processing, your individual tinnitus patterns, and what you've already tried. From there, we develop a truly personalized strategy. Just because something didn't work before doesn't mean the right approach won't help.

How long until I see results?

Timeline varies by individual. Treatment outcomes depend on many factors including how long you've had tinnitus, its severity, and your individual response to treatment protocols.

Some strategies can provide immediate relief, while others build gradually over weeks to months. The key is consistency and patience. I'll work with you to set realistic expectations from the start and track progress along the way so you can see improvement happening — even if it's incremental.

About Hearing Aid Services

What if I already have hearing aids?

Many patients don't realize their devices aren't programmed correctly or aren't the right fit for their specific needs.

I can assess your current hearing aids, identify gaps in programming or fitting, and optimize them for better performance — often dramatically improving results from devices you already own. Sometimes all you need is expert analysis and proper adjustments. Other times, we might discover you need different technology or a different approach entirely.

Do I need to come in person, or is everything virtual?

Most care is delivered via telehealth for convenience. For hearing aid fittings or certain diagnostics that require in-person care, I can recommend local audiologists who follow evidence-based best practices.

This approach gives you expert consultation from anywhere in Washington while ensuring you get quality in-person care when needed. I'm also willing to work alongside your insurance-covered providers — you pay me only for what you want from me.

How does remote hearing aid programming work?

Remote programming allows me to adjust your hearing aids from anywhere — you don't need to drive to an office for every minor adjustment.

You use a small streaming device (such as your smartphone), and I connect to your hearing aids through a secure platform. I make real-time adjustments while we talk about what you're hearing. It's convenient, efficient, and gives you access to expert programming no matter where you are in Washington.

Why didn't my hearing aids help my tinnitus?

There are several possible reasons:

Underfit devices: Some providers program hearing aids conservatively to make patients "comfortable" initially — but this means you're not getting the amplification you actually need to provide tinnitus relief.

Wrong device for your loss: Not all hearing aids are created equal. The technology needs to match your specific hearing loss pattern and tinnitus characteristics.

Incomplete approach: Hearing aids alone don't treat tinnitus — they're one tool in a comprehensive strategy. Without proper tinnitus management protocols, devices might not provide the relief you expected.

Poor fitting process: Some clinicians don't follow proper verification protocols or don't know how to interpret fitting results, meaning your devices may not be programmed to clinical targets.

I can assess what's happening with your current devices and develop a plan to get you the relief you're looking for.

General Questions

What areas do you serve?

I serve patients across Washington State via telehealth — from Seattle to Spokane and everywhere between.

For services that require in-person care (like hearing aid fittings), I can recommend local providers who use evidence-based best practices.

What happens in the first appointment?

We'll start with a comprehensive discussion of your auditory history, current challenges, and what you've tried before.

I'll assess your complete situation — whether that's tinnitus, hearing aid performance, or both — and we'll develop a personalized evidence-based treatment strategy together. You'll leave with clear next steps and realistic expectations.

This isn't a sales pitch. It's a clinical consultation where we figure out what's actually going on and what will help.

What makes you different from other audiologists?

I'm Board Certified in Tinnitus Management (CH-TM) with specialized training that most general audiologists don't have. I experience tinnitus myself and have successfully managed it using evidence-based protocols.

Because I don't have device contracts dictating my recommendations, what's best for you clinically is also what's best for my practice. Our interests are aligned.

Most importantly: you're in control of your treatment decisions. I give you the knowledge and tools — you decide what makes sense for your life.

How do I get started?

Option 1 — Book a free 15-minute discovery call to discuss your situation and see if we're a good fit. I don't provide clinical recommendations during discovery calls — if you want personalized care based on your specific situation, that requires a full evaluation.

Option 2 — Schedule your initial assessment directly if you're ready to dive in and want a comprehensive evaluation.

Both can be booked through the scheduling page.

What if I'm not sure this will help me?

That's exactly why I offer a free discovery call.

We can talk through your specific situation, what you've tried before, and whether my approach might work for you. If I don't think I can help, I'll tell you honestly — and point you toward resources that might.

You're not committing to anything by having a conversation. You're gathering information to make an informed decision — which is exactly what I want you to do.
